IT Dos and Don’ts

1) Keep all emails from IT staff that contain instructions/directions/links for future reference.

2) Save all work files to the server (K: and P: drives).
– N: Drive is NOT backed up. Nothing important should be saved on the N:
– N: Drive is sync’d with the other offices overnight, so there is NO real time sync like the K: and P:

3) Do NOT install software without permission.
– if you want to try using a new tool/software, touch base with IT first
– if you want to install “missing” software from the N:, touch base with IT first

4) Do NOT download unauthorized materials or software. NO file sharing whatsoever.
– streaming music to your computer/device is NOT officially sanctioned. Use a low bitrate and common sense and there should not be an issue.
– access to social media, YouTube, etc. should be kept to a minimum. Just be a reasonable/responsible employee.
– do NOT access objectionable sites and content from any A10 office or computer.

5) Do NOT share any of your logins/passwords.
– passwords should not be the same as anything you use for any personal accounts.
– you are responsible for any and all actions taken with your credentials.

6) Keep file and folder names short and concise.
– There is a character length limit (254 chars) for file paths including the filename and going over that limit can lead to corrupt and unrecoverable data.

7) Keep your mailbox lean. Detach and file attachments. Don’t forget about detaching items from emails you’ve sent.

8) Shutdown your computers every evening, unless you’re running models/analysis overnight.

9) Only A10 computers can be plugged into the network or connected to the Corp wireless. No exceptions.
– Guest wireless is available for visitors.

10) Try not to send attachments within the offices. We have shared server space, so put the files where they belong on the K: or P: and send a link instead.

11) if you're planning to travel, please notify IT so proper steps are put in place to allow you to connect to the office network with the VPN.

12) When prompted to change your password because it's expiring, actually change your password. An expired password interferes with the VPN and causes other issues.
