We are replacing the Sonicwall Global VPN Client with Fortigate's Forticlient VPN. This article will explain how to login to the new Forticlient VPN.
Open the Fortigate VPN Client
First, you'll want to open the VPN to start the connection. Just like with the Sonicwall VPN, there are multiple ways to open the Fortigate VPN. Circled in red are three different ways you can open the Fortigate VPN to start your connection. (See screenshot below)
What VPN Name should you connect to?
New York Users: NYC
San Francisco Users: SF
Singapore Users : SIN
Bangkok Users: BKK
Australian Users: SIN
Connecting
Once the Forticlient window is open, you'll have the option to choose where you would like to connect from the dropdown menu. Choose the one available to you. In the screenshot it says BKK because that's where I was configuring, but it could be SF, NYC, SIN, etc.
For the username and password, it will be your account username and password you use to log into your computer. The exact same! If you have a longer name and it's shortened due to character limit for your account username login, you have to use the same one to login to the VPN.
DO NOT USE YOUR OLD SONICWALL VPN PASSWORD.
Don't capitalize any part of your username.
Username: firstname.lastname
Password: The same password you use to log into your computer
Then hit the 'Connect' button.
It is possible that when you hit 'Connect', you'll be prompted to accept a certificate. Hit 'yes' on that pop-up, or it'll stay at 40%. The pop-up appears behind the Forticlient window, making it effectively invisible, so look out for that. You'll need to select it to make it move to the front. If you see two Forticlient icons on your taskbar, one of them is the pop-up mentioned.
If the connection is successfully established, you'll see the screenshot below. If it does not connect for you, let IT know. From here, you can minimize the window.
